To identify, nurture, and develop football talent at the grassroots, youth, and amateur levels
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Bungoma County Branch is a recognized affiliate of the national Football Kenya Federation (FKF), established to coordinate, regulate, and develop football at the county level in accordance with the FKF Constitution (2017) and the Sports Act (2013). As part of Kenya’s devolved sports management system, FKF Bungoma operates with jurisdiction over all football-related activities across the county’s 9 sub-counties.
Football in Bungoma has deep community roots, dating back to the 1980s and 1990s when local youth clubs and inter-school competitions flourished across towns such as Webuye, Kimilili, Bungoma, and Malaba. Unofficial district leagues, organized by passionate volunteers and community leaders, formed the early structure of football organization. These early efforts set the stage for formalized football governance under the Kenya Football Federation (KFF), and later, the unified FKF system.
With the implementation of Kenya’s devolution framework in 2013, FKF adopted a county-based structure, giving rise to the formal FKF Bungoma County Branch. The branch was officially recognized in 2019, with its first county-wide elections held under FKF’s supervision. Since then, the branch has grown into a structured body comprising a County Executive Committee, Sub-County Committees, technical arms (e.g., referees and coaching units), and specialized committees for youth, women, compliance, and competitions.
FKF Bungoma has produced outstanding players and referees who have contributed to both national leagues and the Harambee Stars/Ulinzi Stars/Nzoia Sugar FC. Several former youth players have progressed through the ranks into top-tier clubs, including Nzoia Sugar FC, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Tusker FC.
The branch is also proud of its contribution to women’s football development and inclusivity, having supported the growth of community women’s teams and participation in inter-county tournaments.
Since its inception, FKF Bungoma has been steered by committed officials, including former Chairpersons and Secretaries who laid the groundwork for structure, outreach, and compliance
